Junk 2 Funk Revival

October 27, 20243 min read

Junk 2 Funk returns with style!

It's hard to fully capture the impact of Covid had on our relationships, communities and culture. We will likely not see the extent of the ripples for a long time to come.

Kootenai Environmental Alliance was deeply impacted, as were many non-profits. Covid was basically a reset button for KEA. That is both a challenge and an opportunity.

One much loved event that was impacted directly was KEA's fabulous and flashy "trashion show" Junk 2 Funk. If you haven't been to Junk 2 Funk, you want to.

It's a runway fashion show where all the designs are made from at least 80% garbage. The creativity is inspiring, and the atmosphere is electric. It's an incredible night of innovative conservation where art meets activism.

Junk 2 Funk had 10 solid years of being KEA's most well known and profitable fundraiser, and then Covid hit. And now... we're back!!!!

Junk 2 Funk 2024 was a fantastic success! Thanks to the diligent effort of a solid group of eco-loving volunteers, artists and community businesses, KEA was able to re-ignite a legacy of relationships, community and artistic activism.

A humble thank you goes to the founders of the event, Janet Torline and Rebecca Patano. These two passionate and driven women put the spirit in Junk 2 Funk. We were happy to have their well organized notes and good company for the event.

A HUGE shout out goes to Shannon Erwin who has been the primary creator/decorator for Junk 2 Funk over the years. Shannon puts countless hours into transforming the Eagles lounge into a dazzling, stylish eco-fashion runway.

We would also like to thank our designers and models. Without their ingenuity and sassy stage presence, we wouldn't have a show! Thanks for your continued creativity in the name of conservation.

A deep thanks goes out to our sponsor The Exchange. The Exchange is the largest weekly local classifieds in print and online in the Inland Northwest.

The Exchange

The Exchange exists to be a trusted media resource in our community. They do this by helping people find what they need by connecting buyers and sellers in print, online at www.PacificNW.Exchange, and digitally.

Additionally, we would like to thank our primary auction donors, Mountain View Cyclery and Brooke's Seaplane Service.

We are very grateful to Melinda and Emily Farrell of Kay's Photography. They donated their time and talent to capture the fun and fashion of the evening. Their generosity will helps document the inspiration for the next round of creators.

Finally to all who attended, a sincere thank you for supporting the revival of our signature fundraiser. Your enthusiasm and commitment to supporting Junk 2 Funk made out re-launch a success. It was so enjoyable to celebrate with old and new friends of KEA.

We're already talking about how to make next year even more dashing. If you are curious about getting involved in any way, it's never too early. Check out the photos from this year, start gathering your trash and diving into designs. We would love to see you on the runway next year!!!
