The City of Coeur d’Alene began embracing recycling more than two decades ago, but it wasn’t until 2010 that curbside single stream recycling became available. By offering the single stream (all items in one big bin) option participation in recycling increased from 28% to 75%. But of the items that are collected (plastics, paper, cardboard, aluminum, steel, tin), glass is not one of them. Now, the City of Coeur d’Alene’s solid waste contract with Waste Management is up for renewal and adding glass to the items accepted for single stream recycling SHOULD be a priority. It was estimated that adding glass recycling service in the City of Coeur d’Alene would only raise residents rate’s by $1-$2 per month.
Please sign the petition to urge Coeur d’Alene City Council to include curbside glass recycling as an option in their upcoming waste collection contract.
