KEA is excited to announce a collaboration with University of Idaho Extension’s Eat Smart Idaho Program, Kootenai County Farmers’ Markets & Kootenai Environmental Alliance
Eat Smart Idaho, Kootenai County Farmers’ Markets and Kootenai Environmental Alliance are teaming up to increase access to fresh, locally grown produce for those in need. Our goal is to increase access to local fresh fruits and vegetables to low-income families by starting the Double Up Food Bucks Program.
What’s a Double Up Food Bucks Program? A Double Up Food Bucks Program offers matching dollars for anyone using food stamps EBT/SNAP cards. How does is work? A family receiving food stamps can spend up to $10 of their SNAP benefits receiving an equal match, one to one, to become $20 worth of fresh, healthy food.
We Need Your Support: To bring this program to our community we are seeking local donations to raise a minimum of $5,000 to get this program off the ground. Last year, almost 17,000 individuals accessed EBT/SNAP benefits in Kootenai County. By making a donation, the benefits listed to the right can be realized.
The wins are four-fold: low-income families bring home more healthy food, our families become healthier, local farmers gain new customers and make more money, and more food dollars stay in our local economy. Each creates a ripple effect of benefits across our community.
