There is an ever expanding atmosphere of anticipation and anxiety that surrounds presidential election years like 2016. But don’t let your fascination with activity on the national stage eclipse another very important showdown-the local elections. Yes, who occupies the Oval Office impacts our lives… but so does who serves on our county commission. These three people determine: what your property taxes cost; how your tax dollars are spent; where and whether or not residential and commercial developments come to our community; actions to be taken against those that violate county ordinance; and how Kootenai County land use codes will develop. These ordinances are vital to how this community will grow (urban sprawl or protecting rural character) and how natural resources will be impacted.
Kootenai Environmental Alliance is hosting a Candidate Forum on Thursday November 3rd from 4-6pm at Java on Sherman. Candidates for Kootenai County Commissioners will each have the opportunity to introduce themselves and their platform and answer questions generated by the audience.
Candidates Russell McLain(I) and Bob Bingham(R) are running for District 3 seat to replace retiring Commissioner Dan Green. Candidate Chris Fillios(R) is running uncontested for District 2 seat to replace Commissioner David Stewart.
This event is free to attend and is open to the public. Food and Drink are available for purchase.
